Good job from the stewards keeping the club events for proper clubs. Time for the composites to man up!

What you just described is a graduate, not a student.
But anyway, when you say "join a club":
- if you mean that they turn up at the club at xmas, train at the club for 6 months, row with the club in heads and regattas, then nobody is going to have a problem with that
- if you mean that he continues to train with his uni until the 2nd week in June, then flies back to the UK and visits his "club" for the first time, then that doesn't really count as "joining a club" to me.
Owl you have a lot to say. you seem like a threatened little bird.
Just a slow day in the office, and I've seen all this stuff so many times before. Good to see Team Keane and Elizabethan not in the Club events.

Americans? I don't think anyone suggested that nationality was a concern, just "Students in Club events" ... the title of this topic.

Ashley?
I understand all the points of view on the club / intermediate events. Remember that you can interpret the rules the other way round....you can win the Temple and still race in the Thames. So for all the complaining about certain individuals being too good, how do you counter the stewards decision that you should be able to win the PE, then the Temple, then the Thames. That is one way they are encouraging good athletes to remain in the sport. The Thames is then a higher standard than the Temple, so why all the complaining about all the students - you should be better than them.

It's quite simple. When you're in a student programme, race as a student. When you're a graduate, race for a Club.
It's not about who is better. When the Temple first came into existence, it was a weaker event than the Club events. Currently the Temple is stronger than the Club events. But it's not about which event is stronger, it's about having fields that make sense, students racing against students, clubs racing against clubs. If a bunch of non-students pitched up in a student event (Nereus 2015?), that wouldn't be popular either.
