Hmmm... a crew with two ex-GBR U23s, one well ranked GBR U23 trialist, and one guy who did well in the USA U23 trials. Won at Ghent and Met this year. One guy coming off a drugs ban.
Not exactly what I think of when I think 'club'.
Up a division you go. No complaining.
What rules have they broken to get bumped up though?
Honestly this is a joke. British rowing is a joke. It is very sad.

You don't need to have broken a rule to have the Stewards push you up a division. This crew has had a few very slick recent wins and I'm sure that people would have taken these results (and who they beat) and looked at the crew CVs and decided they were good enough for the Visitors. The Stewards can do this and have done it before.
There was also talk earlier in the forum of the membership eligibility of the rower coming off the ban.

Our crew was entirely eligible for the event and was composed entirely of non-student club members with full-time jobs --- including me, a guy who, in spite of being an entrepreneur traveling constantly and often working 18 hour days, moved heaven and earth to be here and to accommodate training twice a day (and losing 45 lbs.) since January. The decision can only be described as political and the result of pressure from other clubs who believed they couldn't beat us if made to race us. I always believe in boating the strongest possible fully eligible crew in a given event, and doing so shouldn't be a crime. I look forward to racing with Richard Hawkins, Ed Grisedale, Tim Grant and Joey Mallen at Marlow Regatta on Saturday and to serving on their coaching team now as they prepare to win the Visitors Challenge Cup at Henley this year alongside the Henley entries from Britain's most dominant club, Oxford Brookes University Boat Club. Meanwhile a throwback to winning the 2013 Britannia Cup with Henry Hoffstot, Brian Wettach, Tim Broughton and Sybren Hoogland."
Would someone mind posting a link to where this was originally issued?

I love how he's already had a gift of a henley medal with that last Taurus crew and is now raging because they're not being gifted another one.
Could not have happened to a nicer guy
Also, LOL at his comment he has trained for 5 mo this for this!!!!!

I can see how you'd be a bit crapped off if you've aimed for a particular event and have put in an entry that is - at least on paper - fully compliant with the current rules as published. I still think they (he) is laying it on a bit thick for a bloke who has completed at a World Cup.
However, this crew is exactly what many clubs have been complaining about. It highlights that the standard of rowing at the top end has pushed down so far that rowers can have been almost full time national athletes (u23 standard is very high) yet still be eligible for 'Club' at HRR.
It is damn nigh impossible to write a clear set of rules that deal with every possible situation, but the Stewards are at least seeming to take it seriously these days. I'd like to see u23 athletes pushed out of club - medal win or not - for a longer time (a few years past? 5? Until masters A?). The student crews posing as club crews seems to be at thing of the past now and I hope that this disappears - it is just too easy to research the rowers and spot them now.
The poor guy had to stop being fat for this. At least he can hold off on his own Wikipedia edits for now

Cheers Felix. Not feeling much sympathy for him at the moment...

It's not right that some of the top clubs have full-time rowers
I hear that Mahe is in the Avon Rowing Club Thames 8+..... That would be fair right?
