To be honest we don't know if any of them will get accepted until Thursday so who knows what will happen.

Team Keane all Oxford students
Elizabethan all Princeton/Harvard students (besides the one that was expelled 👀)
Taurus rumoured to have two athletes not allowed
London 4+ Princeton students

Shady characters. If you race for the uni in the year, don't do the club events.

Just my opinion. Shady shady ringers. Boooo

Re: Students in Club events

What I've really enjoyed about the Bulletin's coverage of the 'Team Keane' Thames Cup debacle is this picture:

In which Berkwick Cooley or whatever his name is stands on the hard at UL next to the Empacher 8+ Jonathan Close-Brooks - a boat that belongs to Oriel College Boat Club, whose minibus has been pictured parked round the back...

http://rowing.oriel.ox.ac.uk/2017/03/jonathan-close-brooks-boat-launch/

If there is such a thing as the spirit of the rules, then Team Keane have shown massive contempt for it.

It does make a mockery of the idea of club events if you can fly in students fresh from rowing 1st varsity in USA. Club rowing in the U.K. Is already dying a death and this behaviour will only make it worse trying to maintain club towers in the sport. Why do they not have a rule included excluding those rowers who have rowed in US varsity 1st 8s? Although saying that the varsity 2nd 8s at the IRAs last week was stacked with very good British rowers also so that might not completely put an end to the problem.

Also who names a boat club after themself!?

A group of friends, wanting to race, and compete in the only event of their level for which they are constitutionally eligible, whilst representing an up and coming club that does great work, don't sound like shady characters.

On the contrary they sound like people that encapsulate the essence of sport: competition, camaraderie and using what talents you have to support the next generation by providing exposure to an institution that works a lot with introducing the sport to the young.

On the other hand it could be suggested that they get this exposure at the expense of any club that gets reduced exposure or recruitment because they miss qualifying or miss advancing through a round because if a crew of students. The club events are heavily oversubscribed and "real" club crews get pushed out.
