richard mille nadal As part of the brand’s ‘Special Projects’ line, the UR-111C is Urwerk at its best, a mature watch that soars with mechanical ingenuity and a design ethos straight out of Blade Runner. Although it does not bear the hallmark satellite hour hands we have come to associate with the brand, the UR-111C is packed with imaginative displays (jumping hours, linear retrograde minutes, optical fibre-augmented seconds) and a look and feel that is 100% Urwerk.
More than just a mood, the Streamliners capture the Art Deco temperament and vitality of the city that never sleeps. Before we look at the darker soul of the sleek black PVD UR-105CT Streamliner, let’s take a look at how these micro-mechanical marvels materialised in the first place and why New York has been such a fundamental fountain of inspiration.
Alternative ways of displaying time via satellite hours on board futuristic vessels are the bread and butter of Urwerk. So when the brand unveiled its latest opus, the UR-111C, without its signature satellite hour complication, everybody’s ears pricked up. The UR-111C is a fascinating machine and draws on inspiration from the former King Cobra model. Presenting time in multiple formats (linear and digital) located in different portholes on the case, the other surprising feature of this watch is the new interface. Dispensing with a conventional crown, Urwerk has incorporated a novel roller in the centre of the case with an extractable lever to set the time. The new UR-111C shares some traits of the UR-CC1 King Cobra another dissident model that departed from the wandering hours formula by incorporating linear and retrograde indications. Like the King Cobra, the UR-111C displays the hours and minutes in a linear driver’s-style display at the front of the watch, but that’s about where the similarities end. jacob & co astronomia price
Launched to coincide with Urwerk’s twentieth anniversary in 2017, the UR-105 CT Streamliner is a celebration of the city that put the wind in Urwerk’s sails: New York. Three versions of the UR-105 CT are in circulation today, each one designed to capture a New York minute. According to co-founder and designer Martin Frei, the titanium and polished steel model is “like New York City in broad daylight, bright and shiny” while the Kryptonite model evokes a Gotham City atmosphere emitting its green lume in the dark. The most stealth interpretation of the three Streamliners is this titanium and black PVD-coated steel version, something the Dark Knight might have worn on his vigilante crusade to eradicate evil from Gotham City, New York’s fictional alter-ego in Batman movies and comics.
It is not every day that URWERK presents a brand new piece - not an adaptation of an existing piece, but something truly different and unique. So when URWERK announces something new, we’re always excited to see the result of many years of development… And its latest baby does not disappoint. Bold and ultra-modern, as a URWERK should be, the new creation gets rid of the signature wandering hours indication to restore another iconic display: linear retrograde minutes. Meet the URWERK UR-111C, the direct descendant of the UR-CC1 King Cobra and a watch that brings many, many cool details and mechanical innovations. For over 20 years, URWERK built its reputation on the use of one unique display: wandering hours. Surprisingly, this ultra-modern display was inspired by an archaic way of presenting time. Attributed to the Campani brothers, wandering hour clocks dispense with the traditional arrangement of concentric hands and combine the hours and minutes in a single indicator. A highly intuitive way to read the time, a wandering hours clock made for Pope Alexander XII by the Campani brothers was what got Felix Baumgartner going. hyt watches liquid
hublot ferrari replica The “hunter case” of the UR-105 CT Kryptonite adopts the clean, minimalistic design inspired by skyscrapers, with vertical grooves on the cover. On this new edition, the founders even claim that this sombre look was meant to evoke the mood of “Gotham City”. The case is made of titanium, coated with deep black AlTiN all around. The fabric strap also relies on this non-colour to create a stealth, dark look. When closed, this watch is almost pitch black, with the exception of the hour numerals and minutes track, which are coated in white - one of the main differences with the UR-105 CT already introduced last year.As for the movement, nothing has changed compared to previous versions, with its wandering hours running over a 60-minute scale, and the signature automatic winding with two pneumatic turbines on the back governing the self-winding rate, which can be set with a lever in FULL position, in STOP position or in RED (for reduced) position. The updates seen on the previous UR-105 CT are also present here: fully opened carrousel, lighter and more aerial base-plate, addition of a digital second on the left of the time display, and a power reserve on the opposite side.
However, the URWERK UR-105 CT Kryptonite has a second face, when darkness falls. From a monochromatic watch by day, night brings a much bolder creature to life. The hour markers and minute track emit an intense green light while the seconds indicator and the power reserve emit a blue glow. The contrast between the matte, AlTiN-coated case and the vivid phosphorescence of the numerals is definitely cool. And of course, this phosphorescence is even stronger when the hinged cover is opened! brm bt-12 46 gulf
As already noted, it uses the same engine and same “wheelbase” but this URWERK UR-105 CT Streamliner changes category by becoming a Targa… Indeed, that’s a word usually reserved to open-roof cars, however in the case of this watch, it is the most fitting appellation - and if it’s not the first time URWERK has used this name, it makes even more sense here. In fact, on top of the watch is a “hood” that can be opened to reveal even more of the innards - while when closed, this hinged upper case only reveals the essentials, meaning the display of the time.
Slide up the button on top of this cover and the magic happens. While when closed the URWERK UR-105 CT Streamliner is rather austere and “shy”, as only a small curved band is visible (however with the time perfectly visible), once the protective cover opened, the watch reveals a technical, cold and metallic environment - where the entire carrousel with the satellite complication is visible. The UR-105 CT Streamliner is available in two versions, both very URWERK: a full-grey titanium and mirror-polished steel version, only enlightened by one or two red accents, and a titanium and black PVD coated steel model with the usual bright yellow accents all around the dial.
More emotional than practical (that’s most luxury watches, let’s be honest), the UR-111C continues Urwerk’s interesting mission to “connect” humans and machines. Brilliance or Marketing BS, only thinking such as this (and luxury timepiece budgets) makes exciting “big boy toys” like the UR-111C even possible.Direct your attention to the “front” of the watch which would be facing you while, say, driving without having to turn your wrist. The hours are displayed on the far left, and the other two displays are both the minutes. The seconds are displayed at the “top” of the watch above a roller that performs the same duties as a traditional crown. On the side of the case is a lever that allows you to change the crown’s function. There are a lot more interesting details to note for each of these things, but now we can move beyond the initial bedazzlement of the Urwerk UR-111C’s crazy design. audemars piguet skeleton replica
