DETROIT -- Overtime games suit the Dallas Stars just fine. Rich Peverleys goal at 4:41 of overtime completed a comeback and gave Dallas a 4-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night. It was the Stars fourth win in overtime or a shootout of the season and third straight on their three-game road trip. "Weve had a lot of overtime games so far this year. You need to be able to get points in any way," Peverley said. Peverley beat Howard on a wrist shot from the high slot. "I came off (the boards) and was looking to shoot," he said. "A lot of traffic in front and he (Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard) never saw it." Shawn Horcoff, Jamie Benn and Cody Eakin also for Dallas. Kari Lehtonen stopped 26 shots. "Theyre a great team and theyve got some great players but we did a good job of being persistent," Peverley said. Todd Bertuzzi and Pavel Datsyuk each had a goal and an assist, Adam Almquist got his first career goal for Detroit, which lost its fourth straight at home. Henrik Zetterberg had three assists. Jimmy Howard made 24 saves. "Its a tough loss. We did a lot of good things. We played good enough defensively," Zetterberg said. "I dont think they created that many chances, I think we created more." Eakins power-play goal at 18:50 of third, and with Lehtonen pulled to make it a 6-on-4 advantage, tied the game at 3. It was Eakins fourth goal and came on a wrist shot from the right circle. "In last minute, down one. Thinking, get it to the net." Eakin said. Detroits Justin Abdelkader was in the penalty box for goaltender interference after being called with 2:44 left in regulation as he ran into Lehtonen after getting off a shot. "I would think any penalty 200 feet from home isnt a good one. All youve got to do is flip it into the corner and grind some time off of the clock. Thats good for you," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "What you cant do is take a penalty in any spot at that time of the game unless its going to save a goal. That was a tough one for us obviously. It wasnt his intention to hurt the team in any way, but its a lesson learned." Datsyuks goal with 8:26 left in the third gave Detroit a 3-2 lead. He made a nice move past Horcoff in the slot before firing a wrist shot past Lehtonen. It was Datsyuks seventh goal. Benn tied the game at 2, 4:08 into the third with a spectacular individual effort. He stole the puck from the Red Wings Darren Helm in the neutral zone, circled back to his own blue line and went end-to-end, made a move past Detroit defenceman Niklas Kronwall and put a backhand past Howard for his sixth goal. "Pretty lucky ... I didnt even see the net when I let the backhand shot go. Found a hole," Benn said. Horcoff put the Stars on the scoreboard at 19:39 of the second period when he was left alone in front of Howard. It was Horcoffs second goal. Bertuzzi opened the scoring 7:44 into the second period with his fifth goal. His one-time slap shot from the high slot area, that deflected off the stick of Dallas Ryan Garbutt, beat Lehtonen. Almquist, a rookie defenceman playing in his second NHL game, made it 2-0 with 5:10 left in the second. He scored on a one-time shot from the slot. NOTES: Detroit RW Johan Franzen missed his third game with an upper-body injury. ... Dallas GM Jim Nill was formerly the Red Wings assistant GM. It was his first game in Detroit in his new position. ... Detroit RW Jordin Tootoo cleared waivers earlier on Thursday but remains with the team. ... Horcoff played collegiately at Michigan State. ... Red Wings backup G Jonas Gustavsson came off injured reserve, where he was because of a stiff neck, on Thursday. Detroit also sent G Jared Coreau to its AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids on Thursday. .. Dallas C Tyler Seguin was helped off the ice with a bloody face in the third period after colliding with two teammates. He played junior hockey with the suburban Detroit-based Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League. Stitched Jacksonville Jaguars Jerseys . 1. CAVALIERS: At 19-20, theyre a mess. Florida went 2-1-1 on a recent four-game homestand, but lost the last two games of that residency. The Panthers hope to avoid their first three-game skid since early November when they play the first of six straight on the road tonight. The Panthers, who last lost three straight from Nov. 4-8, are coming off a lopsided loss on New Years Eve when the New York Rangers notched a 5-2 victory at BB&T Center. Tomas Fleischmann and Jimmy Hayes scored once each for Florida, which fell to 5-3-2 over its last 10 outings. Al Montoya surrendered all five markers on 34 shots in defeat. They dominated most of the night, Panthers head coach Gerard Gallant said. Roberto Luongo will get the start tonight for Florida. The veteran netminder boasts excellent career numbers against Buffalo, going 12-6-0 with a 1.84 goals against average, .940 save percentage and four shutouts in this matchup. Florida is 7-5-6 as the visiting team this season. The club will continue its swing Sunday in Washington. Buffalo has fallen on hard times after posting a 10-3-0 mark from Nov. 15-Dec. 15. TThe club has followed that stretch by losing six of its last seven games.dddddddddddd The Sabres lost their second straight game on New Years Eve, losing a 5-1 decision to the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning. It marked the fifth time in seven games that Buffalo had allowed five or more goals. Tyler Ennis had the lone goal for the Sabres on Wednesday, while Jhonas Enroth allowed all five goals on 25 shots. Buffalo only managed to put 11 shots on goal in the loss and was outshot 14-1 in the third period. We couldnt get out of our end and they had the puck most of the third, said Ennis. When they have the puck for as long as they did were not going to get many shots. With Buffalo also playing on the road tomorrow against the Rangers, its uncertain if Enroth or backup Michal Neuvirth will get the start tonight. Tonights tilt marks the third of four meetings this season between the Panthers and Sabres. The clubs have split two encounters so far in 2014-15, with each team picking up a win on home ice. Buffalo halted a four-game losing streak in the series -- both overall and at home -- with a 4-3 overtime win on Dec. 13. The Sabres, who are kicking off a four-game road trip on Saturday, are 10-9-2 as the host this season.
