BOSTON -- The Boston Celtics overcame Detroits dominance inside by passing the ball precisely and protecting it better than they had all season. Rajon Rondo had 18 of Bostons season-high 38 assists and the Celtics committed just seven turnovers in a 118-111 win over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night. "When one guy has it going as far as passing the ball, its contagious," said Rondo, who also scored 11 points and didnt turn the ball over. "We scored a bunch of points tonight. We kept on pushing. We played free and just had fun." Jeff Green scored 27 points, Kris Humphries had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Kelly Olynyk added 18 points off the bench for the Celtics in their second-highest scoring output of the season. Jerryd Bayless had 15 points and Jared Sullinger 14 for the Celtics, who got at least one assist from every player that entered the game. "I think we do have a pretty unselfish group moving the ball. We missed a couple of extra passes, but not very many," Boston coach Brad Stevens said. "Its good to see the body movement and the ball movement. I think weve been pretty active on that end of the floor." Josh Smith had 28 points and 11 rebounds for the Pistons and was one of three Detroit players with double-doubles. Andre Drummond had 18 points and 22 rebounds and Greg Monroe finished with 22 points and 14 boards. Will Bynum added 18 points off the bench for the Pistons, who have lost seven of eight and 10 of their last 12. "I think that our effort level needs to be a little bit harder," Bynum said. "I think maybe we need to play with a sense of urgency. We are trying to make the playoffs." Detroit controlled the game inside, outrebounding Boston 54-39 and outscoring the Celtics 64-44 in the paint. However, the Pistons committed 16 turnovers and could not cool off the Celtics once they started hitting shots. Boston shot 15 for 22 in the third quarter, including eight 3-pointers, in its highest scoring game since beating Orlando 120-105 on Nov. 11. "Sometimes we close out hoping they miss and I thought down the stretch of the game, we closed out trying to make them miss," Detroit coach John Loyer said. "We dared them to shoot the basketball and they had a very good shooting night, but youve got to adjust as the game goes on and guys are shooting the ball." Boston beat the Pistons for the first time in three meetings this season. Detroit had rallied from 21-points down to win in Boston on Dec. 18, but the Celtics were able to hold off the Pistons each time they rallied down the stretch this time. After going 2 for 14 from 3-point range in the first half, the Celtics made five from beyond-the-arc in the first 6 minutes of the third quarter. Smith pulled Detroit to 69-63 on a 3-pointer with 7:27 left in the period, the Green made back-to-back 3s followed by another from Bayless to stretch Bostons lead to 78-63. The Celtics finished the period with eight 3s and led 95-84 entering the fourth. Monroes three-point play with 9:28 remaining cut Bostons lead to 97-89, then Bynum pulled up for a jumper on a fast break to get the Pistons within six. Detroit stayed within reach and pulled to 113-109 on two free throws by Bynum, but the Pistons had to foul and Humphries sealed it by making two from the line. The Celtics shot 50 per cent in the second quarter and led by 13, but Detroit closed the half on a 9-2 run to pull within 57-49 at the break. NOTES: Drummonds 45 double-doubles are most for a Detroit player since Isiah Thomas had 47 in 1985-86. ... Humphries previous high this season was 19 points. ... Rondo reached 4,101 career assists, passing Bill Russell (4,100) for fifth place in team history. ... Boston finished with just seven turnovers. DENVER -- The new kids got things rolling and the familiar face with the bushy beard brought the win home. Charlie Blackmon lined a two-out single in the ninth inning off reliever Sergio Romo, helping the Colorado Rockies beat San Francisco 10-9 on Monday and stop the Giants six-game win streak on a long day at Coors Field. Earlier in the day, the Giants broke away from a tie and beat Colorado 4-2 in a game that resumed after it was suspended May 22 in the sixth inning because of rain. In the regularly scheduled game, Rockies reliever LaTroy Hawkins (3-2) blew a save in the top of the ninth. In the bottom half, Mike McKenry led off with a single up the middle off Romo (5-4). McKenry scored from third when Blackmons hit fell near the right-field line. All this after the newest members of the team, call-ups Ben Paulsen and Rafael Ynoa, arrived from Triple-A Colorado Springs ready to contribute. Paulsen hit a two-run homer as a pinch hitter and Ynoa had the first three hits of his career. "The hits were coming from a lot of guys you may not expect it from," said Blackmon, an All-Star this season known for his unkempt beard. "Its really positive to see that kind of contribution from not the usual suspects." Hunter Pence hit a three-run homer for the Giants. Pence also came up big hours earlier, when his tiebreaking double in the eighth led the Giants in the resumption. Hawkins struggled in the ninth, giving up an RBI single to Buster Posey and another to Pablo Sandoval that tied the game. It set the stage for Blackmon, who collected the Rockies seventh walk-off hit of the season. He said he was looking for a changeup from Romo since he saw nothing but fastballs in the earlier game. "The pitch was way down," said Blackmon, who was 0 for 5 before his final at bat. "I looked up and didnt know where it was going to be. Then I realized it wasnt going to be an out -- and I ran to first. " A bitter loss for the Giants to stomach in the middle of the NL West chase. "Hard-fought game, tough game," manager Bruce Bochy said. "Thats one that you see here in this ballpark." Trailing 7-2 in the sixth, the Rockies scored four runs off starter TTim Hudson.dddddddddddd They tied the game the next inning on Josh Rutledges run-scoring single off reliever Jean Machi. Paulsen gave the Rockies a 9-7 lead with a two-run homer. Brandon Crawford broke out of a slump with a pair of RBI singles and a run-scoring double. Pence extended his hitting streak to 14 games with his homer in the first. Hudson gave up six runs and remained winless at Coors Field. Hudson acknowledged the last time he was in town that a victory in this hitter friendly-park remains one of the items on his baseball bucket list. "This is a crazy place to play sometimes," Hudson said. "Regardless of what the scores are throughout the game you have to keep pushing, you have to keep trying to (put) runs on the board. Because crazy things happen here." TRAINERS ROOM Giants: OF Michael Morse experienced soreness on his left side in batting practice before the first game. Hes considered day to day. Rockies: LHP Boone Logan (left elbow) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list, ending his season. The 30-year-old Logan was 2-3 with a 6.84 ERA. UP NEXT Giants: RHP Yusmeiro Petit (4-3, 3.44 ERA) will make his eighth start of the season on Tuesday. He beat the Rockies 4-1 last Thursday. The team also will transfer INF Marco Scutaro (back) and RHP Matt Cain (elbow) to the 60-day DL. STRANGE HAPPENINGS There were several oddities in the game resumed from May 22 because of the long layoff: -- Susacs single in the eighth will now show up as his first hit in the majors, at least in the chronology of this seasons box scores. Until Monday, his first hit was listed as July 30, a few days after he was promoted from Triple-A. -- The Rockies have four players appearing in the final box now on the DL -- shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, outfielder Michael Cuddyer, catcher Wilin Rosario and righty Tommy Kahnle. 22:58ET 01-09-14 Jerseys NFL China Cheap Adidas NHL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys From China Cheap MLB Jerseys Wholesale China Jerseys NFL Jerseys China Discount Soccer Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys China China NCAA Jerseys Cheap Cheap Nike Dolphins Jerseys Cheap Nike Patriots Jerseys Cheap Nike Jets Jerseys Cheap Nike Bengals Jerseys Cheap Nike Browns Jerseys Cheap Nike Steelers Jerseys Cheap Nike Texans Jerseys Cheap Nike Colts Jerseys Cheap Nike Jaguars Jerseys Cheap Nike Titans Jerseys Cheap Nike Broncos Jerseys ' ' '
